Smitty's, those were the days!

Many of you know me as the Facebook Queen, but how many of you knew me back in the olden days. Okay, maybe they are not really the "olden" days, since I am only 33. But, sometimes it feels like that Let's take a journey into my childhood. This is way Pre-Facebook age.

As many of you know I went to Cherokee, Cocopah, and Chaparral. Home of the Firebirds! Graduated in 95. And, yes they had high schools back then. How many of you remember going for an after school snack with your parents after a  long day of school? Man, I wish I could go back to those days. Well, I did almost everyday with my mom. My favorite place for an after school snack was Smitty's. Way before it was Smith 's or Fry's. I loved that place because  it was not just a place to food shop, but it was also a place that many childhood memories were made.

I remember walking into the store and while my mom got the food, I walked around by myself and looked at the magazine and the toys. I felt like such an adult getting to walk around the food store all by myself. Even though, my mom was not too far away. I even remember getting lost and not being able to find my mom. How many of you had to have your mom or dad paged over the loud speaker? Come on. I know many of you had. Well, I did a few times. And, if I could not find my mom, I used to stand there crying. Even, though I got lost, they were still good childhood memories. I know that is sort of strange. And, that is why this blog is called the Flip side.

My best memory of Smitty's was going to the snack bar upfront and getting an ice cream cone or an Icee. Yummy.  And, if I was not in the mood for anything offered upfront, there was always the bakery. I loved the free cookies that the bakery used to give us kids. Okay, I admit when I got older I went up to the counter and asked for my free cookie. And, they just glared at me. Oh well. A kid at heart has to try once in awhile. Right?

If you have a memory of the old Smitty's, feel free to share it. I know many of you have these memories.  Let's see just how many memories we can post. On the Flip Side, even throwing up outside the grocery store left a great childhood memory for me. I know it seems strange. But, it is sort of fun to remember the olden days of childhood. Isn't it?

I love your new blog! I yoo have great memories of Smittys! One stop shopping...groceries, clothes, household items, etc. Very important since I had three kids under age 5. Lets return to the simpler, kinder days... Smitty Days!
